I saw the hit count on this blog quadruple last week so I thought I'd better check what my few visitors were looking for and lo and behold it was people looking for the text of the new Shameless introduction. Nothing unusual there as over the years most visitors are looking for that or the link to WNXX but it seems I have failed.

I don't think it's "picking dim sum" but "bigging dibs up".
Dibs is a game played by children (though there are adult variants of it) whereby claim is laid to an object, or figure of attraction, which is realisically beyond the reach of the would be claimant. Bigging dibs up is another way of saying "exagerating claims and expectations beyond what can ever be realistically achieved"
The opening sentence is very clever. If I hear it right, Frank is saying (in his own philosophical language) Those of you watching who think "We know nothing of what it is to be ignorant" better watch your backs.
