The Compleat Tom Paxton - Update

Way back in the mists of time (March 2008) I was on here bemoaning the fact that I could not get hold of the CD of The Compleat Tom Paxton; well, my very dear friend Finglebone arrived in Bath yesterday clutching the vinyl double gatefold LP version.

I have not seen one of those for more than 30 years.

Thanks Mate. I owe you big time.

Next time you're in Bath we must have a session - good food, good ale and the best company. Cheers.

Thanks Bongo - I've had a look and it's not really clear which version this is. The track count and order seems different. Thoughts anyone?

Bathnick - I bought one of the copies (They had at least two) and it's the 'even compleater' version, all the same artwork as the original LP. Highly recommended!

Thanks, Anonymous. Just check Roots Records site and it's not listed anymore. All things come...

The "Even Compleater" version was made by Rhino Handmade, a division of the famous reissue label that makes about 1000 copies of certain records with (allegedly) "no commercial potential". It sold out very quickly (I've never been able to get one) and of curse, they don't repress more when they've obviously scored a hit. A blessing and a curse in their editorial policy.

Rhino also put out a Very Best of, still in print, methinks, which had a long "gestation" period from the time it was announced. I saw Tom around that time, and he just mumbled about "*%#@!! record companies"... They left out some of my favorites like "Angie". I don't think you can contain Tom in one cd.

I just found out Tom got a lifetime Grammy last year. Wouldn't have thought the industry was that perceptive....
